Comprehensive Review of Schizophonic |
I first fell in love with Geri when she was part of the Spice Girls. One day I was watching the news and saw her kiss a boy fan of the Spice Girls. I wished that could be me. Then when I heard of her departure from the Spice Girls, at first I felt sad, but I then realized she would be better off without them. It was almost a year before she released her debut single Look at Me. I started to worry that she had left all together. When I first heard Look at Me I was a little I was a little disappointed but I convinced myself that I loved it. But unfortunately Look at Me is the kind of song you can soon get sick of. Before I bought Schizophonic I was a little worried that all the songs would be like Look at Me but luckily they were all better. I have to say, by my opinion, Look at Me is by far the worst song on the entire album. The rest of the songs are great. Unlike Look at Me the rest of the song on the album are very similar to Spice Girls songs. This is probably because Watkins and Wilson who co-wrote all the songs on Schizophonic also co-wrote many of the Spice Girls songs. It is interesting that all of Geri's songs have a similar structure. They have a verse followed by a chorus, another verse followed by the chorus, a middle part, then the chorus again. Here is a review of all the songs on the album. I have rated them all according to their entertainment factor and how many times you can listen to them without getting sick of them. I have also included on many of them the most similar Spice Girls song. (You can also click on any song to see the lyrics.) 1. Look At Me. (5/10) This is by far the worst song on the album. It has a boring tune and you can quickly get sick of it, especially if you buy the single (the re-mixes are really crap). It would get lower but got five out of ten simply because it is Geri. If anyone else did it it would probably get four or maybe even three point five. I do not know why this was released as a debut. The only reason I can think of is that is the most different from any Spice Girls song, which may be desirable. Another reason why frankly I think it sucks is because it makes Geri sound like she can not sing when this is not true. It is shown in the rest of the songs in Schizophonic. 2. Lift Me Up. (10/10). This song is twice as good as Look at Me. It is very entertaining to listen to, and you could listen to it a thousand times before you get sick of it. It also makes you feel good listening to it. It is similar to many Spice Girls songs in a way. But is also very different in the way that most Spice Girls songs are either fast or in minor keys. This song is slow but very bright an happy. But I think the Spice Girls song it is most similar to would have to be Too Much. 3. Walkaway (9/10) Although this is a great song , it is not quite as good as Lift Me Up. Is has great feeling to it. It may be a little bit get-sick-of-able. It has a little bit of a sad feel to it. But that is okay. It has a similarity to Viva Forever. It has a similar tune. 4. Mi Chico Latino. (8/10) I gave it only an eight. Partly because I do not really like the style. From someone who likes Latin it may get a ten. It quite entertaining for the style, But I think I could get sick of after a while. Although it is similar to Spice Up Your Life, it definitely has its own unique quality. Geri's Spanish background has enabled her to write an authentic Latin song. It is an asset to the album in general. 5. Goodnight Kiss. (9/10) This is a bit of a men's song. It is quite entertaining, although some women may not like it. It has quite seductive music. It is a little like Naked in its feel. Although the melody is more like Too Much. 6. Bag It Up. (10/10) . This is my other favourite. Although I like Lift Me Up slightly better. This is an exiting song. It has good contrast in parts of the song. I think, like Lift Me Up, it would take a long time to get sick of. It most like Who Do You Think You Are, which happens to be my favourite Spice Girls song. 7. Sometime. (9.5/10) This is an near match to Bag It Up and Lift Me Up. It is similar to Lift Me Up. It has a good use of contrast between the verse, bridge and chorus. Every part of this song is completely different to the rest. I do not think it is similar to any Spice Girls song in particular, but it is still a similar style. 8. Let Me Love You. (9/10). This is probably the most unique song on the album other than Look at Me. It has an Indian style, it uses a sitar as a main instrument in the song. This song also uses great contrast between the verse an chorus. It hard to find a Spice Girl song that is similar to, but Spice Invaders is the only Spice girls song, I have ever heard, that uses a sitar. (Spice Invaders is an extra track on the single of Spice Up Your Life here in Australia). Although Let Me Love You is similar to Spice Invaders, it is very different, as it is a real song , unlike Spice Invaders which is mostly a conversation between the Spice Girls. 9. Someone's Watching Over Me. (9.5/10) This is another song that is rated high because of the feel-good factor. It has quite a happy feel to the chorus. It is not quite so much in the verse. It is quite easy to listen to and has a low get-sick-of-ability. It is a little similar to Somethin' Kinda Funny but it has similarities to many of the Spice Girls greatest songs. The theme of this song though is the opposite to Mama 10. You're In a Bubble. (9/10) This song is very interesting but does have a potential to get sick of it even after a relatively low dose of it. It really quite similar to If U Can't Dance. Overall. 88%. This figure is brought down considerably Look at Me. This is a great buy for any Spice Girls lover, Geri lover or even just a lover of fine music. I think any or all these songs have a potential for release and this is a great start to Geri's career.
